The Weather Routing is a powerful tool for yachts and powerboats to display the optimal route for your trip based on forecast weather conditions.
To begin routing, select 'Weather Routing' under the main menu
Start Time Zone
Click on the clock icon to select the timezone for your routing. Generally this is the time zone for the start of the trip, but you can select any time zone you prefer. The time displayed is corrected for daylight savings using the most recent forecast location you have selected.
The start time is the time that you intend to start the trip. Please ensure your start time is within the next 14 days as the forecast runs for a maximum of 14 days.
Run a weather route
Click and drag the start (green) waypoint and the destination (red) waypoint for the desired trip. Please make sure your start and destination points are in the water, and not on the land. Alternatively, you can manually adjust the waypoint by lat/long or place name using the Set Waypoints box - click on the icon with the tear drop and two horizontal lines (top right of the screen).
- You can also add waypoints along the route. Simply click on the 'plus' (+) button next to the start/other waypoints.
- Waypoints should only be added if absolutely necessary as they constrain the route to go to the waypoints. The land avoidance will keep the boat clear of land. Please make sure your start and destination waypoints are in the water (and not on the land).
- The waypoints appear as white dots, and can be dragged to the desired position, or alternatively you can enter the Lat/Long position or search for closest city. Please remember to keep all waypoints on the water.
- When your waypoints have been set, click 'Calculate Route' to determine the optimal path.
- The optimal route is calculated between the start and destination waypoints by using a computational mesh between these waypoints. If the destination waypoint is in a bay, you may need to extend the mesh area by adding another waypoint.
Note: The objective is to use the minimum amount of waypoints so the algorithm is free to find the optimal path.
